Samih Madhoun

Meet

the extraordinarily spirited young oud player of Gaza, Samih Madoun

whose singing voice and instrument burst through the siege on Gaza. They are unbound and raw, and mingle masterfully in the background of wind and sea and the voices of the the children around him. A child himself, he refers to the little ones as ‘our children who love life and hope.’

A student from the now destroyed Edward Said National Conservatory of Music, Samih is forced to follow whatever path appeared the safest while helping bring in hyper-needed water trucks into the north.

The Campsbreakerz

Camps Breakerz Crew was formed in 2003 by a group of local youth of Gaza, Palestine to teach hip-hop dance + breaking skills as therapy and to provide emotional strength to the children of the refugee camps. They near-impossibility of their own situation is representative of who they are: from personal losses and pain, they use their energies to give back to the community. We have watched them continually rebuild their dance studio while simultaneously initiating a food program for 25 families.

Giving workshops and participating in festival all around the world, they continually spread the message of freedom and peace and have been a voice for the people of Palestine while also creating a food program to bring nourishment to their neighbors.

In December 2023, Shark contacted me. he asked if I could produce a piece of art that could be used promotionally to collect funds and help with evacuations. I had no idea what I was doing, only that something needed to be done—and THAT’S the point.

A brief history about the school:

The original CBC School was bombed in 2009, teaching continued on top of the rubble until the school relocated in 2014 in the Nuseirat Camp. From 2023-2025 it has been targeted multiple times.

Ahmed Muin Abu Amsha

fabulous guitarist, teacher, father, founder of Gaza Birds Singing

the words of Ahmed

It’s heartbreaking to see everything you once called home—your dreams, your sanctuary, and the studio where you poured your soul—reduced to rubble. Today, I saw a photo of my destroyed neighborhood, and among the ruins were my home and the dreams I worked so hard to build. The pain was overwhelming, and from this deep sorrow, I wrote the song "Enter All the Places". Every note carries the weight of loss and the hope to rebuild.

Ahmed taught at the Edward Said Conservatory of music in Gaza. I’ve lost track of how many times he and his entire family of five children have been forced to move north to south, east and west through darkness, bxbming, F-16s, soldiers, tanks… GBS—Gaza Sunbirds Singing was an impromptu school he set up to help children overcome the fear of t3rror, acquire skills while out of school and to express themselves using their own voices.

There are about 20 visual artists, dancers, circus, theater actors and musicians we’ve been supporting in Palestine and their profiles will soon be added to this page. But there are also many people missing and we pray for their safety.
